Tesco to take Woolworths store

Tesco has agreed to take a lease on the former Woolworths store on Market Street, Ulverston, and intend to open a Tesco Express convenience store during spring 2009. The deal will create between 25 and 30 jobs in the town. Peill & Company act on behalf of the landlord of the property & advised them on the transaction, and the letting secures the continuity of a national retailer in the town centre, which will complement the range of strong local retailers who are represented in Ulverston.

The store, at 4 Market Street, extends to a total of 602 sq m (6,500 sq ft) and will be Tesco's first presence in Ulverston. The unit is in a prime position close to Thomas Cook, Greggs, NatWest and Co-operative Travel, whilst the outdoor market is held outside the unit on Thursdays and Saturdays. The deal with Tesco was agreed before Woolworths went into administration in December 2007, but was completed as part of a package of Woolworths disposals by Deloitte, the administrators.

Peill & Company are currently marketing some retail units on Market Street directly opposite the new Tesco Express unit, which give a local or regional retailer an ideal opportunity to trade opposite the new store. Details are available under the Property Search section of this website.
