Another former Woolworths store re-opens

The former Woolworths store at 36-38 Highgate in Kendal has been taken by Home Bargains, part of the T J Morris group. The store, which opened earlier this month is one of a number of former Woolies stores in Cumbria which have now found new tenants, including those in Barrow-in-Furness, Ulverston, Penrith and Carlisle.

T J Morris operate over 180 stores in the UK and they were named as one of the largest grocers in the UK. They intend to expand to a total of 500 stores within the next 10 years. They already trade from outlets in Barrow-in-Furness, Workington, Carlisle, Morecambe & Lancaster. The new Kendal store has created 40 jobs.
