A new business park and major public transport facility is being proposed for the southern entrance to the Lake District National Park at Ratherheath, just north of Kendal, and between Staveley and the Gateway roundabout on the A591, within 8 miles of access to the M6 motorway at junction 36. The site lies to the west of the A591, and extends to 16.5 hectares, where a £70m GBP development is proposed.
Development of the site will be for low-density high quality environmentally sensitive buildings set in Lakeland parkland. The site will comprise a major strategic employment site, on whose infrastructure can be founded a major modal transfer facility.
The Ratherheath Partnership, Stagecoach and Peill & Company will be submitting a planning application for the site in February 2009.
