Substantial south Lakes building sold to Holiday Property Bond

Acting jointly with Powis Hughes Chartered Surveyors, Peill & Company have recently agreed the sale of Merlewood in Grange over Sands, on the southern fringes of the Lake District National Park to the Holiday Property Bond. The property, which until recently was occupied as the Merlewood Research Station, sits in approximately 18 acres of woodland and grounds overlooking Grange over Sands and Morecambe Bay. Holiday Property Bond have purchased the site with a view to creating a holiday complex to compliment their worldwide portfolio of villas, cottages and apartments. It is anticipated that the development will create in excess of 30 jobs.

Merlewood, which was originally built in 1853 and later extended, is a Grade II listed building and was offered at offers in excess of £1.5 million as a development opportunity. Holiday Property Bond already has properties elsewhere within the Lake District at Braithwaite Court near Keswick and the proposed development will complement their existing properties. Established in 1983 with over 200,000,000 under management, the Holiday Property Bond is a whole of life assurance bond that invests, primarily, in holiday property.
